Escapism is something we all want right now. And what better form of escapism than a schlocky horror comedy? The perfect film for these dark times is "Day Shift". It's funny, fun, and filled with cheap thrills. It's also quite timely. The movie is set in a world that vampires have emerged from the darkness and are now living peacefully among us. Jody, played by Vanessa Hudgens, is quickly shown that not all vampires are equal. Jody is tasked with determining which of the two types of vampires she should be focusing on. As she does, she must contend with corrupt cops, nosy neighbors, and a whole host of other obstacles. It's a wild ride, from beginning to finish, and exactly the type of mind-numbing entertainment that we need right now. So go ahead and stream "Day Shift" on Netflix. You won't regret.Bud takes up vampire hunting to make $10,000 in a matter of weeks. This is the opening act. He is a Los Angeles pool cleaning man from the lower class who travels to hunt down vampires in an attempt to steal their teeth for money. Bud was mentored in the vampire hunters’ union by Big John Elliott, aka Snoopdogg. Bud was expelled for rule violations and disciplinarian measures. In the film's opening act, Bud steps up his vampire hunting in order to earn $10,000 in less than a week. He is able to re-join his union and gain the respect of his mentor again as a result of his efforts.
Bud and his daily financial woes are unaware of a plot being developed in the City of Angels. Audrey San Fernando, also known as Karla Souza, is the owner and face of a fast growing real estate firm. Despite being over 100 years old, she looks fantastic in the perfectly fitting power suits she wears. Although "Day Shift," or "The Shift," is not particularly subversive or satirical, the decision to make the film’s most frightening vampire a real-estate mogul is a nice joke. Audrey hopes to create a safe place for bloodsuckers and vampires by purchasing several properties in Bud's neighbourhood. She becomes obsessed with him after learning that, early in the film, he murdered an elderly vampire and pulled her teeth. It's a pretty campy movie, but it's worth checking out if you're a fan of vampire movies or want to see Karla Souza in a different light.
I'm not sure if Day Shift is a great movie but it's definitely entertaining. It falls under the category of trashy movies, using classic tropes as well as cliches. There is also a lot if placeholder speech. However, it's also skillfully constructed. Every member of the cast tries their best to maintain the illusion of knowing the joke while also making it appear like the violent ridiculousness of the situation is completely routine. While this is not a great example, it's still a very well-constructed one. Day Shift is a funny and silly movie that you should watch.
Day Shift has the kind of movie that keeps you on the edge. You will be hooked on this action-packed, gore-filled thrill ride. The first part of the movie contains familiar scenes that will make it feel like you've seen it before. But don't be fooled, this movie is anything but predictable. JJ Perry does a fantastic job of keeping things new and exciting by drawing from greats such the Exorcist, Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films, as well as 1980s Hong Kong martial arts pictures. This film will have you on your edge. Every battle is flawlessly executed. I was captivated by the drone footage at the beginning. It is one of my favourite visual moments. Day Shift will appeal to action movie lovers.
When Audrey and Bud have their respective stories intertwine, the movie really finds its feet. The perfect balance between gore, silly humor, gunplay and vehicle chases, as well as martial arts-influenced supernatural brawls is found here. They fight zombies in a graveyard using motorbikes, and it's just incredible. It never takes itself too seriously. It is obvious that the movie was made with a lot fun by its creators. Dead Seven is a film that's equal parts crazy, violent, funny, and just plain weird.
Foxx excels in every role he plays, including Day Shift. In "Day Shift," Foxx plays a sardonic and action-oriented character in the same vein as Arnold Schwarzenegger. His character is evocative of the classic action film genre. He is a badass, who can kill 10 enemies before they can take their guns from their holsters. Foxx is also a straightman who is somewhat perplexed by the events surrounding him. This is a wonderful portrayal of the action film genre. Foxx is an excellent actor who clearly enjoys himself while portraying his character.
Seth is played in the movie by Dave Franco. Seth is a young vampire hunter. This job is more difficult than it appears and he realizes (review) that he might not be as brave after all. Luckily, he has the help of his mentor, Snoop Dogg, who plays a character similar to Kris Kristofferson in the "Blade" movies. Snoop provides great comedy relief and looks amazing in Western gear. Seth learns from him how to become the vampire hunter they were meant to.
